How are you teaching film writing whe...No, just no. How are you teaching film writing when you don't even understand the concepts yourself? Hmmm Blake Snyder? Spiderman is a terrible example, it takes place in the Marvel universe, that is a universe where super heroes and super villains exist. This is called setting your reality, at least by playwrights, they may be more evolved in their understanding of their craft.

Why not point to a better example of bad coincidence, such as in Spiderman 3, where it just so happens that the hero of New York City is sitting in a park exactly where a meteorite carrying a strange alien goo being lands. The same guy who got bit by the radioactive spider just so happens to be sitting within a few yards of where a meteorite that'll make his next movie plot lands? When it could land anywhere on Earth, or miss Earth altogether? That is stupid.

And to provide a quick fix, you could have it hit New York City somewhere else (still ridiculous yet the audience will allow it), and then have Spiderman come across it because he goes to save the people in the skyscraper it slammed into. It looks like cause and effect by doing it that way.Franknoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5022261962330314498.post-91940209866520244412013-11-10T14:40:01.786+00:002013-11-10T14:40:01.786+00:00The Dark Knight Rises captures the spirit -- and c...The Dark Knight Rises captures the spirit -- and cultural anxieties -- of the times.Nushagak River Alaska Fishing Lodges Mike Addiegohttp://www.bristolbayadventures.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5022261962330314498.post-59876292481184204092013-08-02T17:29:08.548+01:002013-08-02T17:29:08.548+01:00I loved it! I guess there are a few other rules of the art of changing characters in TV, honesty of cause and effect for one; Wesley's arc is brilliantly written, in no small part because toughening up is more logical and more believable in a life like that, so he is a more engrossing character the more his dangerous life made things and himself unpleasant. It was a great and complementary choice to go dark across the later series' of Angel.

With other characters, I guess theres some characters who change dramatically if the cause and effect of that change is sincere. Spike changes dramatically in both actions and goals, but where the effect in him is a change in goals and ethos, the cause was often a force beyond his control or expectation [such as the chip, the discovery that he could still hurt demons, the soul; the same could have been said if he had 180 changed and become human again]. So you've got to build up to a change in character orientation with consistent cause and effect. With both film and TV what stands out more is inconsistency in a vaccuum; no pivot or catalyst in the events surrounding it.

It's got me pondering a lot about characters, and the sustained approach to TV...helshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05763679557322734420noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5022261962330314498.post-56271489658915300552013-04-02T14:56:56.061+01:002013-04-02T14:56:56.061+01:00I agree, Neil, Terminator 3 is just one big blunde...I agree, Neil, Terminator 3 is just one big blunder. The antagonist of the piece is almost exactly the same as the one in T2, only this one's female! The creators couldn't even be bothered to go back to the drawing-board and create a new, more devastating terminator than the first two films. Poor production. ;-)Randall's Movie Mania.comhttp://www.randallsmoviemania.com/noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5022261962330314498.post-37882570727236029932012-11-22T12:40:24.062+00:002012-11-22T12:40:24.062+00:00So happy the shop is open!! I also held off from watching it in theaters because I was determined to read the book first. I decided to do this because I remember several girls I work with at Dish telling me that they wish they had read the Harry Potter series before ever watching the movies. I took their advice, and I think that’s why I noticed that the movie was missing a few details that are pertinent to understanding the depth of the characters and the story as a whole. I’m certainly glad I was able to find it through my Hopper’s Blockbuster @Home app because I would’ve been very disappointed had I actually purchased the DVD. I’ve already started the second book, and like you, I’m eagerly anticipating the next couple of movies, especially because Francis Lawrence will be taking over as director!Kristinoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5022261962330314498.post-35894096922282254142012-08-30T10:21:19.424+01:002012-08-30T10:21:19.424+01:00I've seen this film last year I think. Not some border line emo on a skateboard. I can accept that this is a Peter Parker for 2012, and he is more in line with the universe that The Avengers have created, but don't pitch this as a story that is inbetween the original trilogy just say what it is and call it a straight up reboot.

Sony are clearly trying to follow the winning formula that Marvel has used, and that includes the mid credits scene... But this was incredibly lack luster in comparison, with no Easter Eggs for the fans just a lame attempt at linking back to the original trilogy. Moving forward though I hope that they attempt to reach an agreement with other studios so we can see the crossovers we all want to see!!Ty J Knowlesnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5022261962330314498.post-82510997386622568722012-05-15T09:34:13.738+01:002012-05-15T09:34:13.738+01:00An interesting thought on the Hulk....it's abo...An interesting thought on the Hulk....it's about taking Banner from "pissed off" to "I'm filled with anger".
